We can be independent of the world in energy right now!
All we need is the leadership to ban oil/gas imports for 10 years. Then promote scrubbed coal fired power plants, drilling on public lands and off shore coastal waters, honor our free trade agreement with Canada and Mexico and approve the Keystone pipeline. Also, remove all the burdensome rules/controls on nuclear power plants and only provide guild lines including heavy insurance requirements to force safety adherence.
The final element is to Federally fix the price of oil/gas/coal at 10% profit for the producing companies. Which would put heating/cooling, electricity and gasoline/diesel at 1965 prices.
When the rest of the World catches up with us on clean air omissions we can take a look at imports again.
