Wind Vs. Coal

Coal fired electric power plants in the U.S. produce 60 giga watts of electricity. If we replace that amount of power with wind turbine generators it would take 12,000,000 wind turbines at 5 mega watts each.

If it was possible to place a wind generator every 1/3  of a square mile across the entire United States, there is not enough land available. There are 3.7 million square miles in the U.S. and 12 million generators divided 3 is equal to 4 million square miles.

That many wind generators would disturb weather patterns and kill millions of birds every year.

What is environmentally sound about this concept?

The only conclusion I can come up with, is tripling the cost of electricity and making GE and several other big companies very rich.
